The Chinese Qingming Festival, commonly known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a deeply significant traditional holiday observed in early April where families gather to honor and remember their ancestors. During this time, it is customary for people to visit graveyards to clean the tombs, clear away weeds, and make respectful offerings such as food, tea, and joss paper to show their filial piety. Beyond its solemn memorial rituals, Qingming also celebrates the arrival of spring, meaning families often take advantage of the warming weather to enjoy outdoor activities like flying kites, going on spring outings (known as taqing), and eating seasonal delicacies like qingtuan (sweet green glutinous rice balls).
